7 reasons Sir David Attenborough is our #1 bae

He's basically perfection

It's Sir David Attenborough's 92nd Bday, let's party!

As every nature documentary lover knows - Sir David Attenborough is the true King of the Jungle.

Growing up entranced by Planet Earth and everything nature related (my embarrassing old email address that I made when I was ten, treez_r_my_friends@hotmail.co.nz, if proof were needed) - I feel as if I have been preparing for this listicle my whole life.

So here are my top seven reasons why Sir David Attenborough is my #1 bae for life...

1. He's a fashion pioneer

Have you ever noticed that David Attenborough always (and we mean AL-WAYS) wears a blue shirt? Well he does. Like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, he's found a look that works for him and stuck to it. And I feel if you're going to stay loyal to just one top, a sky blue shirt's a pretty classy call.

2. He makes nature docs more exciting than Hollywood action movies

Case in point - that time he narrated a snake chase like it was a high-speed heist. The tension in this scene is INSANE. Just thinking about it gives us anxiety.

3. Binge watching his documentaries is guilt-free

The sun's out, you've got shit to do, but you've spent the past six hours under the duvet watching Blue Planet. So what? Even Netflix asking if you're STILL watching can't make you feel guilty about that, because learning about the world around us feels like a very worthy form of procrastination... even when you've got more deadlines than hairs on your head.

4. His love of nature is infectious

Sir Dave really REALLY loves nature, and his love for all things green and living is truly infectious. His enthusiasm for the natural world makes you want to go out and find a tree to hug or field to frolick in. Sometimes - after a particularly heavy DA session - you might even find yourself narrating a battle between two squirrels you see in the park in your head. No? Just us? Oh well, moving on...

5. Man or beast, he reminds us we're all the same

It's hard not to get emotionally invested in an Attenborough narrative. In fact, it's impossible (unless you have a heart of actual stone). Take, for instance, this strutting superb bird of paradise who, despite putting on what can only be described as a right proper show, fails to pull. When Sir David wraps up the segment by saying: "It's hard to not feel deflated when even your best isn't good enough" - suddenly we are ALL that bird.

6.He has his own drinking game

You  know you've reached legendary status when you have your own drinking game. Not played it before? Well you're in for a right treat. Crack out your Blue Planet DVD set at your next house party and let the good times begin.

 7. He's happy pills in human form

Attenborough has a rare gift of lifting you up right when you are feeling down - pulling you out of that 'the world is definitely going to end in a fire ball of DOOM' spiral, and transporting you to a happier, more optimistic place. Maybe it's his smooth-as-chocolate voice, maybe it's the sweeping HD panoramas, but whatever it is, when life gets too much, you can guarantee that 45 minutes of Sir Dave will remind you that our world really is the most magnificent (Superlative: Drink!) place.
