Corduroy just got crazy, sexy cool, and we're here for it

Beat the freeze in style

All hail corduroy!

Keeping it chic during the winter months can be hard. If you're anything like us, you spend most of the season under layers of scarves, coats, gloves, jumpers, socks, tights and basically anything else you can find lying around that might help keep the cold at bay.

But this winter there's a secret weapon that'll help you keep warm AND look fashion-forward; corduroy.

Yes, the much-maligned fabric - which was big in the 70s and beloved by geography teachers ever since - has made a BIG fashion comeback (thanks to the likes of Prada and Isabel Marant), and we're fully here for it.

If you're yet to jump on the corduroy trend, here's a lil' fashion inspo to help persuade you to make it happen asap...

1. Colour-pop corduroy pants

Yes friends, it's time to trade your tired old jeans in for a pair of colour-pop corduroy pants. Corduroy trousers in every possible colour - from deep navy to pale pink - are all over Instagram right now, and it's easy to see why. In a sea of generic denim they make a real statement, and best of all, they're a super-easy way to work the trend.

2. Co-ord cords

Can you ever have too much of a good thing? We don’t think so - especially when it comes to corduroy. There's no denying this is a brave look, but if you're feeling up to the challenge, treat yourself to a co-ord set of corduroy trousers and a matching jacket and pick up some serious fashion bonus points on the way.

3. All about layerz

Your mum wasn't kidding when she told you to layer up, it's really the only way to get through the winter - and corduroy should definitely be one of your layers this season. Whether it's a cord dress over a cute jumper (a la Chloe Monchamp, above), or a corduroy shirt or jacket thrown over a jeans and T-shirt combo, adding a corduroy layer will always result in a tasty (and toasty) little look.

4. Top it off

An outfit isn't complete without a good hat! Corduroy isn't just reserved for clothing and a corduroy hat can be the detail that takes an outfit from drab to fab in an instant. Cord looks good on anything from the humble dad cap (bonus points if you can get your hands on a vintage Ralph Lauren one) to the straight-out-of-the-70's fiddler cap (yes that's what they're called), and everything in-between...
