Tie-dye is back to add some FUN to your SS18 wardrobe...
Who'd have thought that tie-dye would be one of the hottest trends for SS18, and yet here we are.
When most of us think of tie-dye, the first thing that pops to mind are monged out hippies, but there's far more to it than that. The technique is actually thought to date back thousands of years, and has been practised everywhere from Peru to Japan.
In the 90s the look got a bit more edge when it was adopted by the Acid House and Rave scenes who were drawn to the psychedelic patterns and colours (for obvious reasons). And then, around 2011/2012, it had another little surge of popularity thanks to the likes of Odd Future and Tyler, the Creator.
So who’s behind 2018’s tie-dye revival?
Well Burberry, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Saint Laurent all featured the technique in recent collections, and man of the moment, Donald Glover, even sported a tie-dye tee in an episode of his dramady Atlanta
The thing is, tie-dye is just the perfect summer print. It’s fun, it’s loud, and it’s more than a little bit silly, and we’re totally here for it.
