The Noughties have returned and I couldn't be happier

Fetch me my dungarees

Ahh, the noughties. I can remember it like I was about 4 years old when it began, and 14 when it ended. Despite the Noughties being a few years before my time, its style has had an undeniable impact on my generation, due to the timelessness of shows such as the iconic Friends and Gossip Girl, as well as movies like Mean Girls. You only need to log on to Twitter to see how much my generation loves Friends, and there’s an endless amount of memes featuring the beloved Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf (who doesn’t love the Queen B of Upper East Side Manhattan?). And for Halloween last year? I saw an absurd number of girls dressed up as the Spice Girls. I’ve seen low-rise jeans and flares. I’ve even bought a pair of flares myself. The signs are there; we’ve all been warned…The Noughties have called, and they’re back, with more sequins and space buns than ever.

Dungarees

Nobody quite rocks denim like Rachel Green.

Vintage sweatshirts

It’s impossible to walk through any British university and not see a vintage sweatshirt paired with some variation of Mom jeans or straight-leg trousers. Often cropped or distressed-and usually a sports brand- they are timeless. With the right sweater, anyone can achieve the ‘I’ve just rolled out of bed’ look, knowing full well you spent 18 hours searching for it online and paid £50 for it; don’t worry, no judgement from us.

Baker hats

The comeback of the Noughties has resulted in the welcome return of the Baker hat. With beauty bloggers on your Insta feed and supermodels like Bella Hadid rocking Baker hats, it’s sure to be a trend we’ll see for a while, but let’s be honest, the first person we think of is Keira Knightley in Love Actually...even she knew she ‘looked quite pretty.’

Headbands

Headbands- not only infinitely useful for keeping your fringe out of your face (why did I get one again?) they are now fashionable beyond the realms of Claire’s Accessories. Seen on the cool girl in your seminar and all the High-Street shops, you can get a variety of different styles from velvet to corduroy.

Rose-tinted glasses

See the world through this romantic filter once again. Who knows, you might take a liking to the guy you usually avoid in lectures?

Sporty Knitwear

A guilty pleasure for many I’m sure: the zip up fleece. The very things our mums used to force us into we now strut around town, exuding hipster vibes. Rainbow is also a Spring 2018 trend according to Vogue, Dolce and Gabanna and Jeremy Scott, so this really is a brand-supported Noughties look.

Flares and raw-hemmed jeans

A look petite shoppers can get behind. The silhouette of flares elongates your legs, as shown by model Bella Hadid (who already has enviably long legs. Damn you.) If you’re not quite ready to brave flares or you’re a certified Flares Hater, straight leg jeans or skinnies with a raw hem are equally cool and chic.

Crop tops

Not just for a night out, crop tops can look cute and casual with some high-waisted mom jeans or the aforementioned flares.

Sequined boob-tubes

The naughty, sexier sister of the above crop top. Bonus points if you wear one with sequins. Body glitter, as shown by Britney, is not simply an accessory, but a necessity.

Slogan Tees

Mean Girls, the movie that defined a generation. The iconic Regina George rocked slogan t-shirts, and made them a wardrobe staple for the rest of time.

The iconic Juicy Couture tracksuit

The most ICONIC pieces of clothing from the 2000s. Seen on Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Victoria Beckham and, less fortunately, Eastenders’ Bianca Jackson. 00s teenagers everywhere copied the look, and the Juicy Couture tracksuit was written into the annals of fashion. Kylie Jenner, Rihanna and Selena Gomez have all been spotted sporting the brand and it seems with the return of the Noughties, the Juicy tracksuit is back with a vengeance, particularly with its catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week just round the corner.

So, thanks all that's holy, the Noughties are back in all their glory. Hopefully, this means a return to singing ‘Genie in a Bottle’ into our hairbrushes. Get ready to channel your Sporty, Ginger, Baby, Posh or Scary Spice, because the Noughties Renaissance has begun.
