To some, Shia LaBeouf is that weird dude who went to a premiere with a bag on his head.
But to fashionistas with a seasoned eye, he's widely regarded as the best dressed man in Hollywood - a man whose clothing is as unpredictable as he is, a normcore God who defies convention and puts outfits together with a natural artistic flair.
And as today is his birthday (happy birthday, mate), we thought it was only fitting to shine the light on Shia's unique and thought-provoking style...
1. He's a style soldier
Shia's appreciation for military attire goes beyond appearing in like 100 war films and extends to his actual real life wardrobe. A true fan of thrifted military gear and army surplus stores, this aspect of Shia's style is very on trend and is said to have inspired Kanye West's more recent Yeezy Seasons aesthetic, but more on that later...
2. He knows his vintage
Some piece never go out of style, and Shia definitely knows this. He’s a big fan of vintage Levis, old school denim jackets and retro trainers (such as the Nike Cortez), which gives his look a timeless feel. It also makes it pretty easy to emulate on a budget, which is handy!
3. He's Kanye West's muse (soz Kim)
There’s a lot of similarities between Kanye West’s more recent Yeezy Seasons and Shia’s wardrobe, and it turns out that's not a coincidence. Ye is a huge admirer of LaBeouf’s mix of athleisure, vintage and military clothing. So much so that Kanye actually took - as Shia put it - “all my fucking clothes,” after the two got talking about the actor's style after a concert. Love him or hate him, Kanye is hugely influential in the fashion game right now, so if you’re the dude that inspires him, then you’ve got some serious clout.
4. He just doesn't GAF
Shia hasn’t got a stylist, he doesn’t wear exclusive labels, he doesn't follow trends, and most of all, he doesn’t care what other people think of him. He’s just a dude who knows what he likes and goes with it, and there's something really fucking refreshing about that - especially when you consider the fact that he's living in the Hollywood bubble, where maintaining your carefully curated 'image' is everything.
So the next time you want to wear something but are worried about what other people will think, just stop and say to yourself, “what would Shia LaBeouf do?”
5. He’s the only human on the planet who can actually rock UGGs
UGGs aren’t really thought of as cool are they? WRONG. Shia LaBeouf makes them cool. Shia’s not shy about his love for unusual footwear, rocking crocs and socks and calf-length UGGs on a regs.
But whereas crocs are getting some attention from the fashion industry (thanks to Balenciaga) no ones championed UGGs since Paris Hilton. Except Shia LaBeouf that is, and we’ve got massive respect for that.
6. His boot game's crazy
When Shia’s not wearing crocs or UGGs, he's wearing boots. In fact boots have become one of the most iconic aspects of his look. His two main styles are army and hiking boots, and his love for the latter helped turned him into a normcore style icon.
7. He cleans up good
Obviously Shia knows how to keep it casual but his sense of style also translates to more formal occasions. Whether he’s on the red carpet, doing a press tour or just wearing something a bit more put together, he can really pull it together when he needs to. Get you a guy who can do both never had more meaning.
