7 London Fashion Week Men's trends you need to get behind asap

There's A LOT to work with...

As London Fashion Week Men's SS19 shows have just wrapped up, we thought we'd take a look at some of the stand out fashion moments...

Another London Fashion Week Men's is over and, as ever, there's a lot to digest.

Who put on the best runway? Who were the breakout stars? And how on earth did Liam Hodges manage to make sunburn look chic?

Some of the more obvious highlights were A-COLD-WALL’s dystopian runway - which featured painted models bringing out and breaking apart a large cube, only to reveal another model trapped inside - Martine Rose’s show which took place in a Camden cul-de-sac, and 'pregnant' male models walking for Xander Zhou.

But all this excitement aside, arguably the best part of any fashion week is taking in all the new trends.  Here are seven stand out looks from London Fashion Week Men's SS19 that you can start rocking right now...

Bright and beautiful

LFMW was a very colourful event. From outfits worn by spectators and industry insiders, to work being exhibited by the likes of Charles Jeffery and ALCH, bright colours and neon tones were EVERYWHERE. People often joke that fashion types are obsessed with black, but that's very much not the case right now. Bright, zingy colours have been steadily growing in popularity this summer, and it looks it's a trend that's not toning down away any time soon.

Get weird with it

Obviously high fashion is more conceptual than everyday wear, so we’re not suggesting you walk around with a detailed replica of your own head or four extra arms or anything, but take a lesson from LFWM and get a bit weird with your style.

You don’t have to go full fash-wan, but it's worth exploring trends and styles outside your comfort zone. The main thing to take away from LFWM is that there shouldn’t be limits to how you dress and that it’s OK to express yourself. So go on, buy that inflatable neon backpack you’ve been looking at.

Runway GOALS

Football shirts have seen a huge revival this season (it’s almost as if there’s a World Cup coming up or something), and it looks like this is going to continue well into next year!

By far the biggest LFWM homage to footie came from Tinie Tempah and his brand What We Wear, who channelled their love for the beautiful game into a fashion-forward collection celebrating vintage kits.

A special mention also needs to go to Virgil Abloh, who despite not actually exhibiting anything, still manage to capture everyone’s attention after his Nike x Off White football collection that was spotted ev-er-y-where.

P.S. not to brag but we clocked the football shirts as fashion trend months ago, just sayin’.

The bigger (the logo) the better

The subtle flex is gone and big branding is officially back, as evidenced perfectly by Italian brand Iceberg in their first ever London show, and ALCH’s reinterpretations of Nike and Patta classics.

Big branding obviously isn’t for everyone (I personally get a stress headache if I’ve got more than two big logos visible at any given time), but it’s definitely a trend to jump on if you like to be seen.

Let your inner peacock run free

There were some AMAZING patterns on show at LFWM and they were incorporated in some really brilliant ways. Martine Rose in particular featured clashing patterns very heavily in her SS19 runway, however it was probably breakout star Paria Farzaneh who really got it right with her paisley-heavy collection inspired by her Iranian Heritage.

This one’s not for the sartorially squeamish, but when you get it right a heavily patterned outfit can look very, very good.

Head to toe-nal

Look, an all black outfit is a classic, but there comes a time when a change is needed, and tonal fits are definitely the way forward.

Berthold and Qasimi’s SS19 shows both featured some strong tonal looks to help inspire you to ditch the black and instead embrace all beige (which is much nicer than it sounds, trust us). The beauty of this trend is that it works for literally any colour, so you can be as creative and expressive as you want.

Suit yourself

Unless you’re an investment banker or Barney Stinson, wearing a full suit everyday probably isn’t necessary or comfortable. However, LFWM featured a number of fashion-forward deconstructed suits which gave this classic 9-5 look a playful twist.

If you're used to hanging out in jeans and tees it may feel weird at first, but suit trousers, a jacket and trainers (or more formal shoes if you’re feeling fancy) is a strong vibe. Alex Mullins nailed this look in their SS19 show, so check out their feed for some smart-yet-steezy inspiration.
